Looking for advice on a few good cow elk units in Wyoming. We archery hunt an area in the Western part of the state and will be out there this fall, but looking for something closer to home (nebraska) for a late season cow hunt.
We won't be able to go out until November 10 at the earliest in 2017 and most likely will only have 5 days to hunt. But I will have some time to scout in October.
Have been looking at easier to get tags like type 6 tags for units 8, 10, 11, 122 . . . Unit 7. Just curious if anyone has any pointers on where to head. Looking to avoid an orange army but also willing to join them if out hiking them will down a nice fat cow.
Thanks for any advice

I harvested a cow in area 7 last year. I put in for an area 8 cow tag for this fall. In area 7, you should do just fine in any of the walk-in areas or HMAs. If you call the G&F prior to going out, the biologists in the area usually have a pretty good idea where elk are hanging out. A ton of elk move into area 8 from CO when the snow comes, but until then, finding the resident ones could be tough. Cow season starts in Oct. 15 in 7 and Aug. 15 in 8, so bring a rifle on your scouting trip.
