Team,

Did my homework on sq/mile per hunters, trends, public land, hunt management areas and walk in areas. I'm coming out of Colorado Springs so driving isn't that much of a problem but may be hampered by how long I can get my son out of school. We usually max those days out during archery elk here in Colorado :) I'm interested in your thoughts on 83, 65 and 47/48. Will be putting in for the special draw with 1 point. As always I can trade info down here in Colorado.

Priority is the public land available and lower hunter density which points to 83 but I'm concerned might be too far for a few days hunt. Herd is reported as healthy up there also.

47/48 I'm a little concerned with the fair access to PL

65 has an insane low hunter density, 75% draw but reported as trending down.

What I learn about the above areas will drive my second choice yellow chip unit as a back up.

Thanks

Alrighty then.....I can surmise then.

1. My home work is spot on....or
2. May be a few honey holes in there.....or
3. Those spots are terrible.

Guess I'll have to let my glass tell the story this summer!!! :)

There's really nothing wrong with the areas you've singled out except you have a very slim chance of drawing any of them with 1 PP. Like WB said, if you're dead set on hunting this coming season you'll want to single out the areas that you have a decent chance of pulling a tag in.

Dang.....that sure is a big difference from the 2014 special data......I dont have the 2015 #s so I guess point creep?

2014 WY NR Special Antelope

47 type 2 (1 point) 100% draw
47 type 1 ( 1 point) 36% draw

48 type 2 ( 1 point ) 20% draw
48 type 1 (1 point) 83%

65 type 1 ( 1 point) 75%

83 type 1 ( 0 points) 100%

2015 data has been out for like 9 months.
Hey Bob,

Please straighten me out. When you say 2015 data, do you mean 2015's hunt data that just ended like 2 months and a few days ago? You got me all confused now with how WY puts out their stats. ( I'm guessing you mean 2014 data published in 2015)

Disregard. Found it. Thanks for the education!!

The only thing that really lags behind in WY is the job completion reports. Those are the packets put out by the bio's and are usually a year behind. Draw odds come out the same day the results come out. 2016 nr elk odds are already out.

It's cool that they publish those draw reports immediately.

Don't get me wrong....love the way WY does it.......I just needed to take the time to figure things out accurately/correctly.......I tried taking the easy way and it didn't work and I had bad info!!! All good now!
