2009 was my first year out west hunting. I was 310 lbs at 6'6 that might not sound to bad. But I was wearing a 4XL shirt & 44 pants. since then I have made it down as low as 219 (xl shirt, 36 pants) That was 2013. It is now Jan 2015 and I'm wieghing in at 240. Time to get back at it. Starting a Paleo challenge at my gym. I am shooting for 210 by Sept for my first elk hunt. Going to be doing crossfit , running, hiking with a pack. I'll try to keep updates coming.
Great work, it's not easy to drop that much weight!

Desserts and sweet snacks have just killed me the last few years. Man, do I love them, especially chocolate! Maybe it's just a sugar addiction.

My goals are to give them up except once a week, keep my calories to no more than 2,000/day on average (I am 60) and get down to the gym for classes at least 3 days a week. If I do that, I just might lose a pound a week and get below 200 again.

Two years ago I started to eat healthy again and exercising and dropped 70 lbs. It felt great and it seemed I could almost beat my dogs up the hill chasing chukars! My Elk hunt this September I was hiking 5 to 10 miles a day in the Eagle Caps with no problems. I had not felt this good in 20 years - I am 57. A job that keeps me on the road was part of the problem. But I take full blame for being in that condition! It seems I had about 8 lbs creep back on this December. Thanks Scott for this thread. I have made a new commitment and started a few days ago. Being able to read the comments keeps me motivated!!

I'm 78 and every year it gets tougher and tougher to stay in hunting shape. I exercise with weights and briskly walk 2 miles (outside) every day, weather permitting. Most of my hunting has been for whitetail deer and antelope hunting in the west lately. The days of high-country elk hunts are over as I can't sleep at elevations over 7000'.

Hunt while you're young, as later you'll have enough $, just not the health.

All the best to all hunters,

You're an inspiration OldGuy; hope that I can say the same at your age. I do know that it is far easier to be in shape than to get in shape. At 62, I can still do my Marine Corps max of 20 pullups, but had to give up running because too many parts were wearing out.
