2013 Wyoming Antelope Quotas

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the severe drought making a big impact on antelope mortality and potentially reducing antelope quotas.

I haven't been able to find the 2013 antelope quotas for Wyoming yet. Are these published somewhere? I assume the answer is yes and I just cant find it. This is valuable information to have before applying.

I guess my fear is that all the hours of research I am doing are based on 2012 odds and quotas. There is a possibility that one could select a 1st choice based on this information, but the 2013 quota might be much less and the odds could change dramatically. This could certainly mess ones drawing strategy.

Quotas have not been published yet. With that said, I don't think the Wy Game and Fish likes to drop quotas on Antelope or Deer. We have had some drought issues and heavy mortality and they did not drop quotas in the areas I apply for.

Lots of quotas were lowered last year, as were season lengths. They do this in the spring time. I don't expect quotas to drop much if the winter continues the way it is. You could call the bio for the area and just ask what they expect.

I just spoke to a Bio in the central WY Red Desert area, and he was anticipating tag quotas to be cut by 1/3 this year. Pray for moisture this spring to help the herds rebound from last year's "worst on record" drought.

Took a drive through unit 73 antelope/34 deer and all the animals looked healthy and there were a lot of them. Still got a bit to go to be safe though. Pray for spring rains

Hunted a central Wyoming unit last year that takes a few points to draw. Plenty of bucks around, the only concerning thing I saw was nearly no fawns, I think we saw maybe two or three in the whole unit.

Tentative seasons/quotas will be available before the NR application change deadline. You will have to have them emailed to you but you'll have time to adjust your app. I got mine in March last year for all species.

I think I will put in for a point and then just buy a doe tag for this year. I don't see the point of burning 3+ points for a drought year antelope tag. The moisture will come back to the west eventually, it always does.
