Hi, i'm a first time poster on here. I just ordered my subscription to EHM & EHB. Looking to hunt either WY or MT for elk next year. I have hunted WY DIY for goats.and was successful both times. I'm not affraid to work for them. I want to do it my self. Any info anybody can give, thank you.

Keep in mind in WY as a non-res if you want to go into a wilderness area you are required to use an outfitter.

What an absolutely lame law. I hate when the gov. treats us like children and thinks we need our hand held everywhere. Same as Alaska. They say it is to protect you, but if you are just fishing or hiking, you can go anywhere. Guess its just us hunters that they believe don't have the intelligence to be by ourselves. Or maybe they don't trust us. Or maybe, just maybe these are laws to line the pockets of some select outfitters out there that had some political pull. BS from every angle though.

I'm with Darktimber...it's all a scam to make nonresidents spend more money, as if the tag cost, travel cost, food, lodging and supplies, etc. are not enough already. They know if they make you spend thousands on an outfitter, that money will be taxed and will also be staying in their state. I guess when you step from NF to wilderness things must get really dangerous out there. BS

Ive never hunted Wyo. But I have 5 elk points and 2 moose points. Id wish they would change that before I burn my points, but I doubt that happens, especially since they are thinking about raising the tag prices so much. I think you can have a res but he/she has to have a special permit to take you?? Not real sure on that one...double check before you go.

Darktimber...what you said in your last sentence. Outfitters with pull in the legislature. You can go fishing or camping or birdwatching...or playing "pocket-pool" in the wilderness any time you want...but you NEED an outfitter to hunt! It's all about money!
