Great looking bull and congrats on taking him. I don't think there's any thing that is more addicting than chasing elk. Next challenge, try bow hunting elk and calling them in to bow range. It'll make you shake in your boots. Did you get your rifle from uncle Ted?

didnt come from uncle Ted but in the summer in Oklahoma you start thinking of things to do when it is 105 outside. The oklahoma season is bow for the first part of the season then rifle for the last part. I spent 4 days with the bow and didnt get it done. Next season i will be better prepared. The bull I killed was not the biggest on the mountain so hopefully the one that got away will be sure enough a dandy this season. Thanks Sharpstick

Oklahoma elk season is on private land only with written permission. There are two 10 day seasons early oct and in December. They are coming off the Wichita mtns wildlife refuge and starting to cause big probs for farmers. Some herds are between 300 and 400. Thanks crimson arrow

Nice job, Grady!

My parents have both drawn cow hunts on the Wichita Refuge, but I've never had the chance to chase an OK elk yet. My wife and I put in for the draw each year, keep our fingers crossed, and hope that one day we'll find somebody interested in two management hunters to help them thin the herd that wanders off the refuge onto their land. :)

Good luck with the one that got away come this fall!

Billday what part of ok are u from? Have u already put in for the 2011 draw? I am trying to figure out y they cut the number of tags this year. Hopefully we will both get a tag for the refuge. It took me four years to get on this Place to hunt elk. I know some farmers and ranchers are getting deprivation tags for cows only. They herd up and when they take off goodbye fences wheatfields and just about anything in their way. Thanks

I went to school in Norman (OU) but we live in the Tulsa area now. We haven't put in for 2011 yet, planning to this weekend. I don't know why they cut the tags, though I did notice it in the controlled hunt info. I'm hoping there'll be something in ODWC newsletters or Outdoor Oklahoma sometime soon as I'm curious about that, too.

I don't want to interfere with your hunt or anything like that, but if you have any names or numbers for other folks we might contact about helping thin their herd, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Either way, good luck this fall!
