Trained for 3 months for my 1st race, and a 1\2 half marathon at that. Unfortunately, I got sick a week prior and did not make the race.... :-(
I think I'm going to run the course in a few weeks anyway. I expect my time to be about 2:15. I think this is ok, for my first race.

Good luck to all and stay healthy!

I have never run any marathons. Running is tough work I do enjoy running a few miles every morning before work.

I'm doing my 1st 50K ultra trail run, 31 miles 6/9/14. I'm sure I won't beat any records but I'm having fun and trying to build up my endurance and times. I run a trail after work every other day 10 miles and I've done a double last weekend to see how I'd hold up. Didn't really think I'd be doing this kind of thing but it has progressed over the last 8 months to me doing it. Kind of fits what I like. I'm not much of a flat land runner and I enjoy trekking through the hills for a workout. Walking and hiking just was not pushing me much to build up my endurance and the alternate ones to get there just don't grab me as much or it's not something I enjoy as much. I agree. I hope the best to all and staying healthy too.

I've run a few 1/2 marathons. It's probably my favorite distance to run. I'd recommend finding another race to sign up for instead of running the course alone. Almost every race I've ever done, I went in expecting to run a certain time and have beat that time. Sometimes by a bunch. The race day excitement get the adrenaline flowing and you'll push yourself harder than expected. Kevin brings up a good idea about running trails. They are about all I will run anymore. Nothing beats running a trail and seeing deer, turkeys, etc. They are the reason I'm out there in the first place.

Let me first say that I am not a runner or any type of athlete.
I am an out of shape 50 year old who is very stubborn and competitive.

A guy who works for me talked me into entering a 1/2 a couple of years ago with him.
He bailed and I decided to give it a shot alone.
I should have trained more but I finished after walking about 4-5 of the 13.1
I decided I would do a full before I hit 50…. that meant the following year 26.2 at the same race.
I finished (not with anything respectable), but I did finish and I only walked about the same as the half.

I would do it again and try to beat my time this year but it is smack dab in the middle of elk season.

I would echo the point about finding another race.
The adrenaline boost alone of having thousands of other runners is priceless.
Not to mention most of those courses are run on roads and it would not be nearly as safe without all the race preps and logistics.

Finally if you are running 13.1 get a darn shirt and some swag!!!!!
