    The 2018 Elk picture Thread

My Dad's Bull From This Year My cousin and I had the chance to guide my dad to his first bull this fall. He made a great shot at 268 yards and then the work began. Best hunt of my life...and I didn't shoot a thing!

    CO mule deer options.

Hey guys, I am looking ahead to 2016 for a CO mule deer hunt. I will have 3 NR preference points at that time and I am looking for a 3rd or 4th season rifle unit. I have a friend who lives in unit 18 and he suggested 18/28/37/371, which I should be able to draw a 4th season tag in. I have...

Elk or Deer Preference Points for Your Kids

Hey Guys, Do your kids need to have a hunter education number to have preference points purchased for them? Are there any states where I can start purchasing points for my kids, even if they are too young to have passed hunter education? This might be a ridiculous question, but the thought of...

Glassing more heavily timbered basins for September elk

Does anyone have any tips for glassing more heavily-timbered high country basins for September elk? We camp up high with a large basin to the east and west, and both have pretty heavy cover with limited pockets where elk could be viewed with binos/SS. It is good country and holds elk, but...

Colorado Elk Trophy potential??? To hunt or to collect points???

Hi guys and gals, Last year I hunted a new unit in Colorado during the September muzzleloader season and was fortunate to take a 300+" six point bull. This is a very statistically mediocre unit that is also rugged and can be very difficult to hunt. This is also a unit where I can get an OTC bow...

Bull expectations/considerations in Colorado during rut hunts (archery and MZ).

Hey guys, hopefully this is a pretty open-ended topic that everyone is comfortable weighing in on. This year was my first year hunting in beautiful Colorado for elk. I was on a DIY backcountry muzzleloader hunt and was able to take a decent bull. With this said, what size bulls can a DIY archery...

Are Kenetrek boots worth the price tag?

Hey everybody. I am a relative rookie when it comes to Western hunting (2 seasons under my belt). I currently wear a pair of Danner Pronghorns that I have been less than impressed with. I've taken plenty of time to break them in and they still cause me blisters with week long hunts in the...

    Elk Success Thread!

2014 DIY public land CO Muzzleloader bull. This was by far the most physical hunt I have ever been on...over 10,000 feet, lots of steep and rocky slopes, and elk where we didn't expect them to be. The pack out was brutal, but worth every second now that I am looking back on the whole experience.

Cross-State MRS, part I. Thank you Dave Hoshour!

I have been working through all the information in the cross-state MRS in EHJ October/November and all I have to say is THANK YOU DAVE HOSHOUR! What a great collection of information, especially the attention to odds of taking a B&C animal and tags given out per state. I have read through all...

    New Member from MN

Hey everybody. My name is Tad and I'm from Minnesota. I finally took the time to register officially for the Eastman's forum, even though I have been a subscriber to EHJ and EBJ for years. Although I like to hunt whitetails (bow and gun), western hunting is my true passion. EHJ and EBJ have...
