Mule Deer Rut

Well the rut has started. I was on my way to our shooting club monthly meeting last evening and I saw at least 50 deer in my old orchard. The big difference was there was at least 10 bucks with the does. Sparing with each other and sniffing around looking for a doe in season. One pretty decent 4x4.

Things are starting to pick up here too. The trail cameras have some bucks really hitting the scrapes already. Last week the migration seemed to hit here pretty good.

The last couple of days the bigger bucks have disappeared. There are still some small forkies around, but they are ignoring the does. Looks like the rut is over here.

Sometimes there is a pretty good lull in the rut, that seems to happen quite a bit. We hit it here last week but it looks like it is about to pick up pretty strong.

Watched one buck for an hour chasing does really hard Saturday.
The one my grandson shot was cruising alone
