I need to upgrade my raingear and was wondering what everyone else uses. I'd be looking for something light, packable, and quiet that could go over my puffy jacket when needed.

I have been using the Cabela's Space Rain pants and jacket. It has held up very well even for is weight. I think both the pants and jacket weigh in at around 16oz and they pack very small.. I have used panchos and frogtoggs but really like the Cabela's set.

I have the C4E torrent jacket, and I am pretty happy with it so far. It is pretty light. It is definetely quiet. I don't really ever wear rain gear bottoms, but I do pack a pair of Frogg Togg bottoms if it gets bad enough. I don't seem to mind the wet pants. I just make sure and wear the gators to keep the water from wicking up the pants from the ground cover.

Marmot Super Mica jacket - 6.5 ounces and Marmot PreCip pants - 10 ounces. Don't know what season you're looking for, but coupled with a puffy - this combo is invincible. You should be able to pair up for less than $100 if you watch for some good sales. Best 20 degrees and warmer raingear I've found.

Thanks guys. The weight and the price of the Marmot is nice, but I think I would like something camo. I want something light and packable but I would also like to use it treestand hunting if needed so camp is definetley needed.

Any other options out there?

I hunt in western Washington where it rains a lot. I swear by the Russell APX rain gear. In my opinion it is the quietest, lightest, and toughest gear I have used and I have used many. I'm on my 4 th season with it now and it doesn't show much sign of wear. I wear it for just about anything I do outside in the winter (hunting, fishing, working around the house).

For the money I think the Cabela's stuff is the best unless you live somewhere like Washington or Alaska that gets a crap load of rain. Then I might buy the high dollar stuff. I live in Colorado and the Cabela's stuff does just fine.

I'm thinking about trying the Frogg toggs, seems to be really light weight and pretty compact. Pretty inexpensive aswell and have a olive green that looks pretty good.

Don't waste your money. Years ago I tried them out because of weight but after just a couple of hours in a drizzle and wet vegetation, I was soaked.

Can anybody tell me if the russell outdoors stuff is being phased out? I am having trouble finding it online, their website says they no longer sell from the site but the links to amazon and such have only certain items and then those don't have any choice in pattern or anything.

I've used the Cabela's MT050 gore-tex rain gear for the past 6-7 years. I have worn it in some downpours and it has performed well at keeping me dry. It is fairly quiet also. It is probably not as light weight as some other brands, but it keeps me dry.

The Cabelas Space Rain stuff was in sale last weekend. Not sure if it still is. I picked up a set to replace the one I've have for 5 years. It's good stuff but 5 years is hard on it.

Arwaterfowler:
It was on sale and I picked up the jacket. Seems like it will work very well. I'll find out in about 5 weeks!

I have heard that Russell is getting out of the outdoor clothing lines, but there still seems to be a fair amount of it around at various independent retailers. If you google it and pick through the results, you'll probably find what you're looking for.
