I'm 67 and being "stuck" in the NR battle, when and if I use my elk points, I won't buy another!
For the NRs if they would have put a max point limit (say 4 or 5) then everyone might have a better than random chance at a good unit every 5 years or so. Too late for that.
Vote this out Wyoming sportsman! One of my retirement plans includes a move to your state so I may be able to get another hunt in or two before the bucket is placed at my feet.

I agree with everything that Guy has said. As a younger hunter in the state I can see how had it would be to enter into a system where you are 20 years behind everyone who has been a life long resident. Is there a bill being proposed that to enstate a point system or just talk of it at this point?

It was proposed, but has already been shot down thankfully. But there is a specific group from mainly the eastern side of the state, that will continue to try and push this every year, but it was a pretty overwhelming, No, from wyoming residents and hopefully stays that way.

I wonder how much it would affect draw odds if Wyoming looked at your draw choices in order instead of putting your application on the bottom of the stack if you didn't draw your first choice? I assume it would decrease draw odds for some areas (Red Desert).
I know that's how New Mexico and Colorado do it. Of course CO has points and NM does not.

I believe point holders would stop applying for second choice tags in the scenario so the only draw odds affected would be the low to zero point areas that people are listing as second choice. Nobody is listing high point areas as a second choice because there is zero chance of drawing them.
Yeah that's the way it should work but if you look at the draw statistics people still don't understand how it works and put impossible units for 2nd choice

I've noticed that too when reviewing draw odds. I believe Wyoming also changed the preference point purchase period because a lot of applicants thought the point was applied before the drawing took place.
When was it shot down? I checked the bill today (current as of yesterday?) and it has been stuck in the travel committee since the 11th.

It never went to a vote. It got shot down before making to the table basically. Nobody would second the bill to advance it to talk from what i understand. Not sure why it isn't updated, but the bill is dead
