I cant believe how fast some of these units sold out, 38 had like 230 tags and they were gone by 8:30!

I guessing that hunt will be a zoo... not much public and a lot of tags. Not sure I would want my wife and daughter in the middle of that? Maybe there will be more HMAs opened that I'm not aware of- hopefully. There are plenty of antelope but finding the spot will be tough. Now is the time to start setting something up for next year for your family... find a nice rancher that will let you guys hunt. Maybe drive up for a fishing trip this summer and poke around a bit- you may want to hide your license plates though-lol. Some of those Laramie area guys frown on green plates.

We have a rancher that let us on for a small fee, so its normally a pretty quiet hunt on the ranch, we are usually the only ones on it for the two days that we usually go so i thought it would be a good hunt for them being their first time to hunt, they both just took their hunter safety courses last week and were looking forward to an antelope hunt.

Ah that would have been ok then. Consider Nebraska deer... Youth permits are $6.00 for non-resident hunters. Call around a bit and I bet you find some land to hunt in the western half of the state. If you want to drive to central Nebraska for late season doe hunting, I'll put you daughter on some easy doe deer from a blind. We have several miles of the Platte River that are all behind locked gates. We take 4-6 first time hunters each year on doe hunts. I take kids/first timers out any chance I get. Send me a PM if your interested.

Thanks for the offer, she wouldn't qualify for youth, she got a late start into hunting at 22 and my wife just got her hunter safety as well. I'm excited to get them out doing something that I am so passionate about and I hope they enjoy it half as much as I do.

Hilltop is the man....thanks for getting the kids involved!!!
Honestly seeing a new hunter harvest their first deer is the most rewarding experience to me right now. If any of you out there haven't tried taking a newbie out, you should! I frequently think about the different adults that helped me get started in hunting...can't thank them enough.
