I'm a resident in Cheyenne and this will be my first year bear & elk hunting. Where's a good spot to start looking for Spring bear with the understanding that baiting may seriously impact my odds. I have no interest in baiting, but thought I'd do some hiking and glassing on BLM/NF. Thanks.

If you have no interest in baiting then you'll most likely just be going for a long hike.
Took me two trips to kill a book bear after making up my mind that I was going to do it. Probably really lucky but you won't do it if don't get out and try.

Sierra Madre has lots of bears. South Slopes where grass is growing. Snow shoes can help. Easier if there is snow but the south sides are melted off.
