WY PL Question

I looked on the WY website, but can't seem to find where and how much public land is available in certain units-obviously not as much as on the western side of the state.
I am trying to apply for a 1st choice pp and draw a fun hunt on a 2nd choice. I've gathered a short list of available units that fit this criteria, but am unsure on amount of public ground. I'll obviously be using a GPS for sure. :)
I've sent pm's to several forum members requesting possible info that may help me in making my decision.

If anyone has any tips on this scenario, feel free to send me a pm. I'll return the favor with areas I've hunted.
Thanks guys and happy new year!

You can preview these map thumbnails to get a visual representation of the ownership (BLM, NF, state, private, etc) of land in the unit(s) you are interested in;

http://mytopo.com/products/hunt-area-state.cfm?state=WY

I am assuming you are an Eastman's subscriber, an if so, the MRS should provide the percenatge of public lands/acreage to hunt in any given unit as well...

Thank you and yes I'm a subscriber. The MRS gives you a good idea, but not a detailed "look".
I'll be reviewing these maps tomorrow for sure.

As posted above mytopo is a good resource to get an idea of the public land in a unit. Their paper maps are great too if the unit is on several different blm maps.

The Wyoming G&F updated their website recently to include an interactive map showing PL vs PV. It's not the greatest, but it's something.

Agree this is a nice upgrade to their site. For the OPs purpose, these maps should work well. I like to split my screen and have the Google earth view up next to the WG&F map- you can see boundaries good enough to make application decisions doing this IMO.

I looked at those and unless I am missing something, it's tough to gather much from it. However, it does give you a very basic look...

Try hilltops suggestion of two windows. That should give you a good idea of access to public land. I also like to order the BLM surface maps. They give a good overview of everything. Gps maps are helpful too.

Every hunt listed in the MRS has the percentage of public land in the unit(s) and for states with significant wilderness, the % of wilderness. It also has a grade for access to that land.

An earlier post mentioned that to you but it seems you are not finding what you need. What are you not finding?

True and I can see the %age. However, finding exactly how much and how to access is a bit trickier.
So much easier on the western side of the state-all wide open! :)
Thanks to everyone on feedback. I've narrowed down to 5 possible units based on draw scenario. Now the tougher work begins, thus I will be using these suggestions.
