I am looking for any suggestions of what units and Guides to look at for the 2017 elk season that will give a chance at a 350 bull. We will have 9 points and will be hunting with rifle. We do not want to do a town hunt like most of unit 7 offers. I have been looking at unit 45 or 34 with Bighorn outfitters.
Thanks

Robie , don't be so serious. Iv'e been on sites forever. Just giving out crap and having fun. You guys from up North and back East get worked up so much. What kills Me is the Guys from back east who hunt out West once a year or 2 years Have all the knowledge of out west and know more than us Westerners do who live here. Its actually Comical. I personally at 60 will help anyone any where. Happy hunting Guys ,and have fun. ..................BOB!

lol, You use the term "back East" as anything east of the western front? haha. That's fair, we call anyone from north of the red river a Yankee.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at wagon hound pretty hard but he only offers town hunts. I have a hard to pay 7 grand for a hunt and then Having to pay my lodging and food on top of it. But it does look like he offers a quality hunt.

Unit 61 would be another option. I would check out Trails West Outfitters, they run a top notch outfit, and kill some great bulls.
I did look at unit 61 but I don't think I want to take on the grizzlies. I have seen other threads that refer trails west looks like they have a great outfit. Thanks.

Werner Ranch and Cross C ranch are only 2 of ranches that outfit Laramie Peak. The ranchers do not have to be licensed outfitters to guide their land. I believe both offer ranch hunts in 7.

For what it is worth, Area 45 was tough hunting this year during archery season from what I hear... yet to be seen what rifle turns out.

If you truly want chances at 350+ bulls. .you better either get over your fear of grizzlies, or go do a private land hunt. . I wouldn't choose the big horns if I was set on 350+..but then again I'm chasing a bull pushing high 300s possibly 400 on a general tag unit. .but plenty of grizzlies, so you wouldn't want that anyway haha. . If your going with an outfitter anyway, grizzlies are just another day on the job, and they really aren't a big deal. The late season hunts around Cody are about as good as you can get to see big snowbound bulls, but I'm not sure you have the points to draw those still

I agree with Duke on 45. I hunted it last year and went with a buddy that had the tag this year. Both were bow hunts and the elk were extremely non-vocal. I hunted 22 days in Sept. last year and passed on a couple smaller bulls and got 1 shot at a giant that I missed the distance on so came home with tag soup. Buddy had a chance at a 320-330 bull and drew too early and missed his shot. I heard 2014 was a good Sept. but the last 2 have been very tough. Buddy plans to go back for the rifle next week so we'll see if that's any better. We had absolutely horrible weather and lost some time because of it. Rain 1 full day then a 20-inch snowstorm made for tough conditions for bow hunting.
