To me, this is a pretty interesting rifle. It only weighs 6 lbs.! But, why only three caliber choices? 6.5-284, 270, 30-06

Elkoholic307 I looked at one at the shot show this winter. Its under 6 pounds even with a wooden stock and has a 22" barrel. I think one of the reasons they didn't make it in magnum is the issue of factory ammo not burning off with that short barrel. Plus having a lighter barrel to keep the weight down it's going to heat up fast after a few shots. Savage really makes sure rifles that go out the door can hold a excellent group. I asked them about a magnum in the Lightweight and they seem not interested.
Jay I would put a Sims vibration pad for recoil on they work very well. Have one on my 7 mm magnum and africa gun, its a 458 Lott. Savage is a sponsor of the TV show. Saying that, all the Savage rifles I have drive tacks. And that trigger can be set to 3 pounds, which I shoot. It works for me but I'm not a gun nut. Heck, from 1971 until well into the 90's I used the same rifle for all my big game hunting. Mike

Mike, the gun you hunted with for 20+ years, what was that? Which of the Savage rifles out now would you recommend for all around big game hunting. I have a thread open already on this topic under GUNS, would like to get your input, thanks.

I came home from the Army in 70 and a guy at Jackson Hole Sports said to look at this new rifle. It was a Ruger 77 and was of course, plain Jane. I packed it around for a long time. One time a horse rolled on it and broke the stock, they fixed it no problem. Oh, it was in the 7MM Rem. Magnum. I still shoot that in the Savage. I really like that gun as it can hold a nickel group. I shoot 160 gr. Nosler Partitions for almost everything. Not much on switching riles. Mike
