This time I need help. I think my grandson can get a youth tag for New Mexico oct 10-14 in units 16c, 16e 23 24 or 34. I am considering unit 34 but I have never been there and we will not have a chance to scout. Which unit would you think is our best choice? Thanks

Ive hunted 16c before. It has pretty good road access and the terrain is not that bad. It would make a good hunt for a youngster.
I have no idea what I got. By the time I heard of this hunt, I had to settle for unit 16c dec 26-30. Anyone care to tell me what this late draw is like in unit 16c?
Not getting much response, surly someone has hunted 16c in late December. I am thinking about migration, where is winter range?

It's the Gila, the elk don't have to migrate in that part of the world. They pretty much make a living in the same areas year round. You might check out some private for food sources, and hunt the national forest edges when they travel to bed down for the day. I hunted there mid Oct, so I have no idea what they'll be doing during late December. But if you find the groceries you should find the elk.
