Hi all. Not only am I new here, I am new to forums in general. My friends and I are meat hunters, and we love to eat and give away sausage to all our friends. We go up to Wyoming periodically for doe/fawn deer and antelope just for a change of scenery. We had a trip in 2015 to one of the unlimited white tail areas and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are planning our next trip for 2017, and I will be posting some questions that we have in the right area on this forum.

A bit of hunting history from me, I grew up on our ranch in west Texas and got my first deer at 5 years old. I learned from my dad "you can't eat the antlers" and "a shoulder shot is wasting meat." It took me a while, but I no longer think poorly of people who don't make head shots. At college, I met a friend who taught me the ethical application of long range hunting. We shoot targets out to 1000yd, but I have never felt comfortable shooting at an animal that far away. In my opinion, anything beyond 300yds is risky, and if you can't consistently hit a target at twice that distance, you shouldn't take the shot on a live animal.

I lived in Africa for 5 years where I got into bow hunting. I have killed more African animals with my bow than I have killed American ones. In Africa, I also learned the value of being a good hunter instead of just a good shot. I never hunted on game farms. All the animals I shot were truly wild, and learning to stalk was one of the funnest experiences of my life. Unfortunately, stalking American animals is apparently much harder since I can't seem to get within the same county as a deer, much less within bow range.

Anyway, that's me. Now off to see if I can find the right place to post questions about Wyoming meat hunts.
