I would like to talk with someone familiar with Region M. Roads, camping, etc. ive got the BLM maps, onyx maps and google earth that I’ve been studying. My main question’s revolve around pulling a trailer and what roads would be decent if there was some rain, a lot of rain, etc. please PM me if you can help me.

Have you ever driven on a road covered axle grease? Well that's what most Wyoming non paved roads get like when they get wet. It's hard to describe any better what you will experience. It actually will get a little better when they freeze and you have to use chains. Some are better than others, but still pretty sketchy. Make sure you have 4 wheel drive, chains for all tires, a shovel or 2, great if you vehicle has a winch and experience driving these types of roads.

We were antelope hunting in part of the M deer zone, and found this abandoned pickup off of a 2-track. It had rained a couple days before, and I was able to get around on my Polaris Ranger, but it was a grind. Even the main roads, if not paved can become a quagmire with a little rain or snow. On our last trip, one of my older partners brought his own UTV, and blew a belt 15+ miles down a 2-track. We got him back to camp in our second UTV, and when he was driving his pickup 60miles to town to get a belt, he slid off the road and almost rolled over. When the gumbo is at its worst, even chains won't help you. I did pull a trailer for the UTVs, but camped off a main dirt road. When it rained, we hunted from camp on foot and waited for it to dry out before driving a vehicle anywhere.

It is amazing at how slick a half a inch of mud can become.
But it is the same for most western states. If it rains you better be ready to sit it out until it dries.

Thanks for all the replies. So would it be wise to camp off a blacktop and just drive everywhere? Do I need a UTV or 4-wheeler?

If you have a UTV or 4 wheeler I would definitely take it with. All the dirt roads are trash if they get any significant moisture. The no wood road south of Tensleep is blacktop until Big Trails, south of big trails the road holds up okay with moisture but depends on just how much moisture they get. Most if not all of the roads branching off from the Nowood become REALLY bad with moisture.
I’ve tried finding on the Wyoming website if anything special is needed if I bring a atv but can’t find anything on it. Do I need to register or get a tag for the atv in Wyoming?

Yes you do need a tag for your ATV. You can get one the day that you get there but run the risk of the store being out of them.
Or just get it through the mail, then when you receive it you can slap it onto your ATV and be done.

wyoparks.wyo.gov orv permits are 15.00 and can be done via their website with your plastic.

If it isn't licensed then yes it does. And if it is licensed you may be restricted on what trails you can drive it on.

Jeep would be legal for any roads but no trails designated for atvs, 50" and under.
