Late Season Elk hunts

Has anyone tried one of the late season rifle or even archery hunts in the better elk units of Arizona? I am trying to work out my elk application strategy for the next couple years and can't decide whether to wait the extra decade for a rut hunt or draw a couple of late tags in the same time frame. I am only 33 yrs old now and can hunt elk every year in Colorado and Idaho. I am also gaining points for better Wyoming hunts. Any thoughts on Arizona?

Arizona Late Elk Hunts are very good hunts. You have to ask your self what caliber of bull you want to hunt. As Meathunter stated Unit 22 easy tag to draw but the caliber of bulls are not so big by Arizona standards. You can expect for the most part 300-330 bulls. The Late season Archery hunts are very good hunts. I believe they are sleeper hunts in AZ as long as the hunter can put their time in scouting and hunting. It is a hunt that you truly need to try to hunt at least 10 days in and the full 14 even better. Spot and Stalk opportunities daily but on dry years sitting over water provides the best opportunities.

The odds to draw this hunt is reasonably good Check your odds at http://bigchinoguideservice.hunterstrailhead.com/huntsearch.php?ST=AZ&ID=

7 west for instance 20% with zero bonus points and 22% with 2 points in unit 9 For the late archery hunt.

Late season Rifle hunts are great hunts as well but it takes 6-7 points for these premium units and 3-4 for other units. for areas with bulls over 330.

Any how you have to decide what you want to do. If we can ever assist you just let us know.
