I'm heading to the Kaycee area for a Deer/Antelope combo hunt on private land in late October. Anyone familar with this unit, and what type of expectations one should have for deer? I took a 140 class muley in Colorado last year DIY, I would be real happy with a repeat or close to it.

Sounds like the antelope are really strong around Kaycee.

There are a few good antelope down around Kaycee, you are probably going to see a lot around 65-75".. There are tons of great mule deer there also. I dont think you will have much problem getting one at least 140".. Hope you get some good ones! It's a very good area!!

Thanks so much for the information, I'm getting pretty fired up about the hunt next week (my hunt starts on Monday, October 24th). It gives me a good idea of what to look for, and I've never taken a buck antelope. Should be a good hunt, and I am going to be hunting in the lower land. However, the place I am hunting has land from 5,000 to 9,000 feet, it is literally right on the edge of the Bighorns.

Thanks again, and good luck to everyone.

Thank you Eastman s forum for the ad! I'm seeking last minute advise on WY deer Y unit 33 West of kaycee. You mentioned 140 would be a realistic expectation. Is that public land? I will be hunting for a week in 2018. Thanks again, any advice would be appreciated.

I hunted the area on public land last year and we filled our tags, cant say we saw any giants but im sure they are around, however if you are private land im sure you will be better off. Good luck and have fun!

My buddy tagged a nice mid 150's buck last year in Y 169 not 33. I would say from the deer I saw at the processor in Kaycee that a 140 or above is rare. Now I saw some really nice bucks on private along the agriculture and water ways. There was a really nice buck that crossed I 25 just south of Kaycee right at dark every day. He would be feeding in the right away. Good luck!

We have hunted private land in 33 for the last 3 years for antelope and mule deer. Was out there for 8 days in early october. Will say this year 3 of us passed on a 20-30 deer in the 140 to low 150 range. They were good but the 3 of us had taken better in the previous seasons. Saw 3 legit shooters but they gave us the slip over 6 days. Quality of antelope was the best in our 3 years.

If you are hunting a ranch that has other trespass fee hunters, I would knock that antelope down immediately. If you see a good one the day before the season(?), so has everyone else. I made that mistake one time on a ranch outside Kaycee. Tried to hunt antelope on the fourth day and there wasn't a goat around. IF you see a 140 to 160 4x4 muley he should probably start taking lead. Out there one in the hand is better than two in the bush.

That was in 99/2000 It was 200 hundred bucks. There was also lotsa people. Deeded acres wasn't much but had huge amounts of locked up federal land behind it.

I guess the season. We were coming from CA for a week. So it was for the whole week. Most plates were from PA, MN, MI.
Im sure you could come and go as you please but I doubt those guys would go home and return at a later date living so far away.
All ya gotta do is talk to em and work out expectations
Now with all the map apps, I don't really see a need in that area. There is a huge area along the powder river that has blm, state land etc. As long as you don't corner hop you are good to go; but there are still tons of us out-of-staters in that public access area
Cheers

Around that area if you are asking about antelope the current trespass fees go from about a low of $200 to around $700 for a better ranch. Some will give you 3 days to hunt and some as long as it takes, depends on the rancher if you can find one that still does it versus giving the trespass rights over to an outfitter to deal with.
