Is packing out game for money considered an outfitter only activity in Idaho?

Looking at doing a backpack trip for moose this year in a wilderness area. The only outfitter in this area would be willing to do a guided hunt that is beyond my budget. Also, I'm more of a diy hunter. The outfitter has guides at that time of the year just doing guided elk and deer hunts and is not interested in doing a game pack out.

My question is: Is packing out game considered an outfitting activity? Idaho doesn't allow non outfitters to receive money for guiding/outfitting without a license.

Technically...yes the person is supposed to be licensed as either an outfitter or a guide under an outfitter in order to receive compensation for packing out your game. . If money changes hands, it is a business activity that a person is supposed to be licensed for.

if it were possible , I would love that.
have played the "pack mule" on many a buddies hunt.

packing is part of the hunting experience. wouldn't you like to get the full experience?????
I know many think hunting is just killing, I am not of that crowd.

I hear ya, if it was all about killing, Id just go down to the nearest farm and pay the farmer to shoot one of his steers. Good luck this year Kidoggy, I hope you have all the fun you can handle!

After a call to the Idaho Fish & Game, they said outfitters or anyone else can pack out harvested animals for money, beer or trade. Packing out isn't an only outfitters service. Great to hear that because there is only one outfitter licensed in the unit. Working on getting in shape for a 9 day hunt, if that isn't successful, a couple more trips with wolf tags (5 allowed in that unit!) and bear (2 tags). Sounding more like a great hunt. Thanks for all the input!!!

kidoggy, I agree packing out the game is part of the experience, if I happen to get one later in the season, definitely an option, more concerned with spoilage and weight, don't want to shoot a small one for a once in a lifetime hunt:eek:

good luck to you.
an don't get me wrong. I have zero objection to you getting someone else to pack it for you. for some, DIY is simply not an option. I get that.
