Idaho 2015 Elk

Hey guys,
Hopefully everyone had a successful season and are already anticapating the season opener next fall. I have hunted colorado several times. We have had mixed results and are debating trying Idaho this year to see some new country and try a new adventure. I plan to call the game and fish next week to start gathering general info. Anyone have any pointers to share for this state, or good places for maps and other useful info? We aren't trophy hunters just hope to see a few and enjoy being in the mountains with a chance at a mighty elk. We plan to setup a wall tent base camp and possibly spike out from there on short expeditions if needed. I don't have any areas picked out as of yet, we travel from Mississippi every year so distance doesn't bother us if it puts us in a better location. Any and all advice would be much appreciated.

you will here a lot about the wolf. Personally after 20 years, I believe the wolf and prey have come to some sort of balance. the hunting in Idaho is not as good as it once was, but it is not as bad as it once was. the hunting is in the middle, and I feel it will be here for a long time. we have all the predators. north Idaho is very brushy and wet, southern Idaho is very dry and open, central Idaho is a mix with a lot of designated wilderness. just about all of Idaho is very steep. I saw a lot of elk last season, no big bulls, but a lot of elk. If you work hard and smart you can kill elk here every year. but you have to work hard and smart. not just one or the other but both. I do take my elk a little serious though. There is a fair amount of pressure on the over the counter tags.
