Frank Church hunt

Does anybody have any tips for hunting in unit 27 (Frank Church- River of No Return Wilderness). My brother and I are planning to either get flown in to Indian Creek or hike in from Dagger Falls. He will have an elk tag and I will have a deer tag and a wolf tag. I know the country is very rough and that some of the airstrips get a lot of pressure. Anybody hunted in there?

Two questions ~ 1. How much time do you have? and 2. Have you considered some of the less used airstrips? If you fly into Indian Creek, you will want to book it as quick as you can away from the area. Landing in a more remote airstrip will get you there quicker. Any of the drainages going into Indian Creek may hold elk. You just need to get as high as you can as fast as you can, and then glass.

I've flown into Indian a few times with my dad. We always hunted up around Big Baldy Mtn. We never have hunted elk in there but I have seen plenty of bulls but very few elk over all. My dad has killed some pretty good bucks in there too. But mostly we would just get 22-24" 4x4's. It's a fun but very physical hunt. If you are not in shape you are wasting your time in there.
Good luck

IdahoHombre- Thanks for the info. I am only looking at about 8 days of backpacking. I am open to any airstrip that has less pressure, I just found some nice looking areas within 3 mile of the Indian Creek and Pistol Creek Airstrips. What other airstrips see less pressure? I am up for any suggestions on how to improve our odds of success.
