Dropped antlers

I read on another forum a guy said he found an antler from what he claims is from a buck his dad shot 30 years earlier. He has a pic next to a mount that has a similar bend in the main beam so it could be from genetics. It is a bit degraded but not like you would expect after 30 years in the elements.

I've had antlers in the back yard and they look pretty rough after only 2 or 3 years.
You guys think it's possible for an antler to last that long laying on the ground?

Nope. Weather and rodents take care of them in a couple of years when they are on the ground. My Dad had some in the desert that lasted a long time, years in fact. But the weather was real dry and they were in a rock garden that was in the sun all the time. The ones I've seen that are a lot older are stacked off the ground and I know some have been sprayed with a sealant.

They might last 5yrs here if you hung them from a tree, in the shade and away from rodents.

They'll last 5+ years but not 30. Once they get past 5 they start turnin to chalk and could last several more but it'll start breakin down
