Well, I am home from a four day elk and mule deer hunt. No success, but a great time. First morning had two bulls, spike and a raghorn, at 70 yards, no shot. Morning #2 I had a cow at 35 yards, but was busted by a mule deer doe, where do those things come from. I was able to close to 25 and took a shot. Vitals were covered, so shot for head and stuck a larch sapling she was looking around. Wow! I have never seen an elk move so fast. I guess a 100 gr. Muzzy inches from your ear isn't tolerable in the elk world. I cow called to try and stop her and was answered by a bull chuckle next ridge over. It answered a few more times, but was moving away. Bulls aren't talking yet, this unit is always late with good activity. I am back up on the 22nd for four more days and am expecting things to be a bit better. I did spot a decent 170 Muley buck, another hunter wandered between me and it. Oh well that's hunting. Hope everyone is doing better or at least having a good time.....

You were into the animals, that's better than many people do. I had a piece of sage brush get in the way of my arrow on its way to a 5 point bull @28 yards Labor Day weekend, went right over his back. Got back on the herd that afternoon but couldn't get him to come in again. My daughter killed a 3 point buck on the High Cascade rifle hunt, it was a fun 24 hour overnight backpack hunt. She killed it 5 miles in, she's turning into a good little hunter! Things are good here so far, expecting it to get better, lots of deer hunting upcoming.

Yes, it was a good trip. Good job on your daughters buck. I used to hunt that High Cascades buck hunt. Some heavy horned blacktails roam that country. I hunted south of Three Sisters Wilderness. Plan on doing it again someday.
