I will be applying in the next few days for a muzzleloader elk tag in NM for the first time. I've compiled all the draw odds/statistics I can handle looking at (feeling cross-eyed).....in addition to some general unit information....

What is the easiest way to figure out if ATV's are allowed on particular public lands?? I prefer to hunt an area restricted to foot/horse travel.......

..........info appreciated.....

Atv's are not allowed at all on state lands. The best way to find out if they are allowed or restricted on usfs or blm is to call that local office. You can pm me if you want with a particular unit I may be able to help you with.

All wilderness area are off limits and most national forests restrict motorized travel to existing roads but some allow off-road travel for game retrieval. It would be very unusual and probably illegal to see ATV's just driving around the woods. Most land use maps will have that information on them. What areas are you looking at?

Wondering about the USFS lands that border the Valles Caldera.....6A and The Santa Fe National Forest in 45....I've compiled all the statistics and draw odds from last year and am looking at a muzzleloader hunt, preferably oct 10-14 or 17-21.....

For the record in the jemez (6a) within the last few years they closed a bunch of trails and roads. Specifically the roads that border the Valles caldera get really close in some areas. Vehicular travel in that unit would be difficult unless you were on a road or trail. If your up for packing in hit the San Pedro parks wilderness. A 6A muzzle hunt would be an awesome hunt. The edges of the Valle get hit pretty good though. It's just like most places get a mile from the road and you're golden.

Sorry you missed the draw. Hit me up if you do draw 6 or the Valle I know the Valle very well. Sorry don't know anything about 45
