Does anyone here use the .308 for hunting and if so, what grain bullet do you find has the best terminal ballistics, I have used the 110 grain and it works great for coyote's and has little recoil, I just puchased some 168gr. and think that's gonnna be a bomber round!

Are you kidding, the .308 is awesome! I load for my buddy's .308. I like it with 150 TSX, or AB. If you are stretching its legs the 180 AB can get out there, even at the .308's modest muzzle velocities.

My very first deer rifle (when I was 16 years old), was a 308 Winchester Model 88, and I loved it. I shot my first forkie with it using 150 grain soft point bullets at about two hundred yards and it went straight down, I later purchased a sporterized Mauser 98, in 30-06, for my first elk hunt in Montana. My 308 now likes 150 grain Nosler Balistic tips with RL-15 powder and will put them in about a one inch group, not bad for an old lever gun with an old Weaver 4 power scope. I now use the rifle to plink with and as a loaner to friends that are just starting out. A great caliber, ammo is easy to find and cheap!

I've killed a few deer and an elk this last season with a Remington 700 in a .308. For deer and yotes I always loaded 150 gr Nosler Ballistic tip, but for this last elk season I loaded a 168 gr Barnes TSX BT. This bullet impressed me, direct path through the rib cage and both lungs, a very clean kill.

I have a .308 Norma I've been thinking about doing some work on. My uncle gave it to me and he has since passed on so I didn't want to mess with it at all. It's been sitting in the safe for a few years and is always in the back of my mind.

my dad swears by the .308...I think he shoots 150's out of it. Pretty cool gun, lever action savage with the copper bullet counter, nice gun, and have seen him take down an elk or two with it!

I think you will be happy with the 168...that's around the grain that i like to shoot for myself...in the 165-168 area. Not too light & not too heavy.
