It is interesting in that with muzzle loaders weather they are rifles or handguns that federal law does not really recognize them as a actual firearm in the sense of the word. Even black powder revolvers fall into the same category even if they were made last week.

You can order any of the above weapons and have them delivered to your home without going through any checks or having to fill out any forms. All you have to do is to watch Pawn Stars on TV and watch how they handle firearms. Any that were manufactured before 1896 I believe are traded back and forth with zero checks or forms other than the pawn tickets. This not only includes muzzle loading firearms but rifles and pistols that fire cartridges.

I often wonder if there couldn't be a way for a non violent convicted person to be able to posses and own a firearm. Perhaps get a law passed where they have to have it registered with their local police or sheriffs department. Or something along those lines.

They just have to remember that they did break laws and that there are consequences to breaking those laws that will and should follow them the rest of their lives.
