#1 is being in the outdoors & family tradition
#2 is filling the freezer.

Don't have to get away from it all, as I already did that when I retired 16 years ago and moved out of the city to Colorado!!! LOL

Some guys go to get away from the Mrs. I'm excited that my wife is finally coming along on my antelope hunt this year. No one I'd rather spend time with, and to have her come along and walk the area with me for a few days is a gift. Plus, we're driving out and she's good company on a long drive.

To piss off non hunters and animal lovers.

Really I just enjoy hunting. It doesn't even have to do with bringing home the meat which is nice but is on the back burner.

I like getting out with friends and family and don't even have to pull the trigger to have fun.

I actually am having a hard time answering this. All of the reasons listed are pretty equal to me. But I guess the reason for me is that I feel an absolute need to hunt. It is a sort of therapy for me that I need in my life.

Like Dan and mntnguide, it is more like I have to hunt because it is who I am. I don't think of myself as hardcore or anything.... it is just that I think about hunting, read about hunting, and do something about hunting (workout, target practice, daydream, etc.) every single day. "To not hunt" really isn't an option. So I guess my main reason then is simply to live.

I guess I will have to admit that I am just an addict! I go every year to the high country. more often then not I don't even have a tag. I just tag along with people who do. I haven't shot a deer locally in about 5 years, I just concentrate on getting my boys out in the field locally. I just have to be out there. I'm an addict?

It's the unpredictability of it. Whats going to happen? Whats over the next ridge? Stuff like that. I can plan, scout, dream all I want but very rarely does a hunt go as planned for me. It's ever changing and always a new hunt.

It's got to be adventure. Getting in the wilderness away from cell phone service for a hunt makes me feel more alive and in tune with who I am more than anything else in the world. It's irreplaceable. It's relaxing and fun yet an adrenline rush and an excitement that cannot be duplicated by anything else. Not to get all sappy, but hunting completes me. lol

My #1 reason for hunting is that it's in my blood! Nobody in my family hunted growing up but I was still setting deadfalls and snares as well as making bows out of sticks to try and harvest the squirrels and doves in our suburban back yard at 8 years old. My hunting mentors starting out were Fred Bear, Chuck Adams, and Jack O'Conner. Now I learn a ton from folks like Bill Winke, Dan Infant and others in the whitetail realm. I am as close to self taught as it gets and have enjoyed every minute of it.

Meat on the table is my #1 reason for pulling the trigger. Once the freezer is full I always carry my wife's high dollar camera and shoot more wildlife with it than my bow or rifle.
