    NM 16 elk tag

Which hunt did you draw? I'll be headed in to 16B for the last rifle hunt. Super pumped to be hunting the Gila this year. I've heard that some good ones made it through the archery season.

    Barbary sheep

On day 3, we got into a new range that had many more sheep (saw a fair number of mule deer too). We found a group of 9 that were all ewes and lambs except for one small ram that I passed on. My buddy knew a guy that hunted a week straight without seeing a sheep, so he thought I was a little...

    Barbary sheep

This is a long time due, but figured I'd update everyone how the hunt went, post some pics, and share what I learned: We spent the first two days hunting the Rim area. Got into some crazy steep canyon and cliff country with more than one instance of getting cliffed out. Ended up finding 3 rams...

    Barbary sheep

Posted this on the New Mexico section, but figured I'd post here too. Was lucky enough to draw this unique New Mexico Auodad tag this year. Since this isn't a typical species most guys hunt, was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience hunting them. I'm guessing a lot of hiking and...

    Barbary sheep

Was lucky enough to draw this unique tag this year. Since this isn't a typical species most guys hunt, was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience hunting them. I'm guessing a lot of hiking and glassing, but anything specific about this hunt would be appreciated. Judging a good ram...

    Turkey's, let's see them

First turkey ever and I pulled a double on some New Mexico Merriam's. Couldn't believe the terrain we ended up getting them in. Equivalent to a double black diamond ski run, below a cliff face. Had to do some running and gunning to make it happen. Great first turkey hunt.

    Bonus Points

I moved from NV to NM last summer. Was wondering if anyone knows if all my resident bonus points will continue if I apply as a non-resident this year.

    Blue grouse success

Just moved to ABQ this summer and NM is already treating me well with a limit of blues on my first outing. Found these guys above 10,000 ft on a quick afternoon hunt.

    Moving to Albuquerque

Just found out Friday that I'll be moving to Albuquerque in June. If anyone has any info on areas to live, etc. I'd appreciate it.

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

After drawing this tag, I had really set my sights on a much bigger bull, but even though I wasn't able rustle up Ole Mossback, I couldn't be happier with the elk I got and how the hunt turned out. Ultimately, what I thought would be a horseback elk hunt with my dad evolved into a solo backpack...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

Seeing a lion a bow range in dark while covered in blood can do more than a little to your psyche. As I left the cat to its own devices, the hair on the back of my neck was certainly raised as I rounded the dark corners of the remaining canyon. At one point, I caught a pair of eyes shining back...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

I crested the ridge the elk had fed over only to find a complete tangled mess of blown down timber. Carefully stalking through the jungle, I spotted the elk below me bedded in sun. That's when I spotted three hunters far across the basin making a bee line for the elk. That many elk aren't hard...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

I sat freezing my butt off in the cold waiting for shooting light which seemed like an eternity. The cow calls got more and more frequent and now I could hear horns crashing together. Once the sun finally did rise, there were over two hundred elk sitting in my lap. But as luck would have it, the...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

Day 3 & 4 had us doing much of the same. Riding long distances and glassing up lots of elk. Just lots of cows and young bulls. (If one thing is for sure, this herd in the Jarbidge is continuing to grow. It seemed every single cow had a calf!) My dad was recovering from a surgery and though he...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

Day two saw us headed to a similar location but we approached the ridge from a different direction. Again we immediately found elk. A large herd was moving out of the open and into a stand of timber on a distant ridge. We turned up numerous small bunches of cows and small bulls closer, but no...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

We rode and glassed miles upon miles in some of the most unique and beautiful country that day. My dad was especially impressed as he had never really hunted outside of Montana. After making a stalk on a group of cows, I ended up at a vantage point that had me glassing up countless elk scattered...

    Late Jarbidge Bull Tag!!

This is long overdue I know and apologize for leaving you guys hanging. After the hunt I spent over two months interviewing across the country... Anyways, I had a great hunt and took a decent bull. It wasn't quite what I imagined and yet was more than I could of asked for. The day before the...
