I’ve never cooked moose, but I think you’d do well to slow roast the ribs on a spit over an open fire - it would be difficult if the wind got up but if you could roast it 3-4’ over the fire for a couple hours I bet it would be good - and definitely very primal. I’ve done whitetails that way...

Both of my kids struck out on cow tags, still hoping one of them will get lucky with a buck tag.

We’re heading up to South Fork, Co in three weeks to get out of the South Texas heat for a week. Hopefully it stays cool and green up there!

Good luck with that…in Texas they are trapped, shot from helicopters, shot on sight, hunted with dogs, shot with night vision, blown up with tannerite and still the things are everywhere. They do go nocturnal with just a little pressure and they are smart, so I would think the idea has merit...

My experience helping out kids in two different northeast New Mexico units is there will be plenty of animals on the state ground. If you want you can PM me, maybe a unit I’m familiar with.

No luck in NM form me or the kids, but my Dad drew a good bull tag in west central NM, a rifle hunt in mid October so I’ll be assisting him with that.

Provided that NM gives everyone in my household the expected dose of red, it will be OTC elk in Colorado for me. Will put the kids in on the secondary draw in CO, so that could change things. Points in CO, WY, AZ, UT, NV And of course, whitetails at home.
