    338 Win barrel length

I would say it depends on your hunting style, for me personally I don't like a barrel longer than 22" mainly because I hike a lot in the mountains. Still hunting is my favourite method closely followed by spot and stalk so I find a shorter barrel handier. I also backpack hunt a fair bit so...

    Winter Texan says hi y'all

Welcome. We may hunt completely different geography but the animals are the same. My whitetail hunts are mountainous but it's still a whitetail.

    Shoot or Pass?

If I came upon that buck in the mountains I hunt there would be no hesitation. If I was presented with a good shot opportunity I would shoot. I hunt an area with four point antler restrictions(on one side excluding eye guards) so he would most definitely be legal. Nice buck. Just a question did...

High Country Muleys 2020 who's in?

I plan on getting up into the mountains for lots of hiking/scouting trips with one of my girls this coming summer. With youth season starting on September 1-9 I hope to get out with my youngest. Then every weekend until either I tag out or the season ends on November 10. One longer trip for a...

    Kentucky Whitetail

Congratulations on a successful hunt. Just curious but what kind of accuracy do you usually get with your slug gun/scope?

    First Buck!

Congratulations to your young hunter, the first is always special. That is a nice first deer, in fact it's bigger than some of the deer I've taken in the last couple of years.

    First Colorado Mule Deer

Congratulations on a successful hunt. Doesn't get much better than hunting mule deer and elk with a good friend, especially in the mountains.

The 2019 Mule Deer Success Thread!

I already posted the story and pictures "Mountain Mule Deer 2019" but I figured I'd put a couple in this thread as well. I got this dark antlered buck on a solo backpacking trip in the Kootenay Rockies of Southern British Columbia. It was a perfect day to be up in the high country.

    Another great buck

Sage being one of my main herbs in bread stuffing, I thought they might taste pretty good. Kind of with a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner flavouring.

    Another great buck

congratulations that is beautiful buck. I'm curious as to how a buck from the desert/sage brush dry land taste? Do they taste like sage?

    Mountain Mule Deer 2019

I have shot only one mule deer larger, so far, and even though I did get him on a solo hunt(same mountain in fact at lake level) it wasn't on a backpacking trip. That previous hunt was a day hunt, I do a lot of day hunts since I live in the middle of the Kootenay Rockies getting to my hunting...

My 2019 buck of a lifetime!

That is definitely the buck of a lifetime, you might as well stop deer hunting now you'll never top it. You shouldn't even try, leave something for the rest of us. Seriously congratulations on a successful hunt and that is a great deer.

    Mountain Mule Deer 2019

The following weekend my daughter wanted to go grouse and turkey hunting so that's what we did Saturday morning. Unfortunately the hunting gods were not smiling on us and due to me missing two grouse we came home empty handed. I still love those mornings on the mountain with my daughter, we...

    Mountain Mule Deer 2019

The summer began with a few hiking/scouting trips into the alpine and high country lakes in the area. I was usually with family or quite a large group so glassing for animals wasn't really in the cards but lots of sign and game trails were noted and everything was looking good. We didn't have...
