    2014 Archery Mule Deer Pt.2

This picture is taken from approximately 1.5 miles away through my spotting scope. I watch this guy with his little buddy bed up under a buck brush in a stalk-able location. Only problem is there are some does bedded right where I would like to go. I decide that I can go higher than them, so...

2014 Archery Mule Deer Pt. 1

This season started off with a bang…….15 yards to a buck and my bow aiming right at his vitals! Then, with arrow in flight, the good Lord stuck a twig in front busting my arrow in two and a decent buck trotting off. Well……isn’t that just GREAT!!!! In all reality, it was amazing. How I did...

    Smoked Salmon??

Anybody got a good recipe for smoked salmon?? From the brining to the smoking I could use help. What smoke do you use? How long should I smoke for at 250 degrees. Smoked my first filet about a week ago and the brine called for a considerable amount of salt. Not knowing anything better, it...

    Grouse Creek Bull Down!

Here is my UT bull, guessing him around 320" give or take a few.....tough hunt, didn't see an elk for 4 days, but happy I got it done. Thanks to my buddy for helping with the hunt. Had to put the pink flagging, bulls singing all around, never know what some nut will think driving up...

    Biologist Questions

When any new hunters ask for starting advice, I always hear folks tell them to contact the biologist of the area. I personally have never done such a thing, just normally get boots on the ground and learn what I can when I can. With that being said, what are some questions you folks recommend...

    Hunter Orange

Good morning neighbors, this is a stupid question as the regs are straight forward, but as long as there is NOT a rifle season within my muzzleloader bull season (Box Elder, Grouse Creek unit), I do not have to have hunter orange......correct???

    Some Changes

Looks like NV approved the option to purchase a cow tag to successfully drawn resident buck deer or resident bull elk tags in select units. http://www.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2014302130032

    NV Indepence Range

Here are some pics off the blackberry I got while helping someone elk hunt in area 6. Had bulls bugling everywhere, got within 20 yards of a 380" bull but when he took off he never really presented a good shot opportunity. She shot anyways with her muzzleloader missing high.

    NV area 7 buck

Too bad he wasn't in a more accessible location and the sun wasn't coming around. I would have flung an arrow in his general direction for my first archery kill.

    K-22 Masterpiece

I almost forgot, my folks bought me a K-22 Masterpiece from this old timer in Pahrump for my birthday coming up on 24th. Being that I will most likely be out deer hunting (if I don't get one tomorrow or Friday) they gave it to me last night. Man............what a sweet looking 22!!!! I been...

    Stalking

Quick question to you experienced archers, if you have a small area that has 5-6 good shooter bucks (22"-26" wide, 17"-24" tall) would you hunt these bucks everyday or give them breaks??? I attempted a stalk with some friends on 3 shooters and one small buck opening day, but we took too long to...

    Cabela's Euro HDs

So I see that Cabela's is offering 0% interest for 12 months on their Euro line of binoculars. Reading the reviews (4.9 out of 5), seems like 23 folks find them to be 5 star quality. A few folks mention they feel they are as good as any of the Euro big three. At $1000, paying $83/month for 12...

    Nevada Missed Money

So since I have killed both my NV antelope and bull, I have been irritated that NV has waiting periods for successful hunters. I don't fully understand the "allowing others the opportunity to draw a tag" claim, isn't that what the bonus points are for?? I decided to calculate missed money the...

    Carrying a rifle during archery????????

A friend and I are planning on buying an A tag for either Sawtooth or Smoky Mountain zones this year, not sure which one we will go with. Which ever we (I) choose, we will get multiple scouting trips in, so I'm not asking for advice on those units. We were thinking about flipping a coin to see...

    Pop's Buck

Here is a picture of Pop's area 7 buck. We only hunted two days toward the end of the season, but were able to still find this buck. I had mis-marked the buck when he laid down, so I ended up walking within 15 yards of him. Pop was directly behind me, so I quickly reached over and turned down...
