Some of you might remember my getting a new Ruger #1 in .300 Wby last year. I finally got my scope back from Leupold (VXlll 4x14) and decided to work on a new load. Went to the range this morning and tested some new stuff I just loaded. I load RL 25 powder, Federal Mag primers and 180 gr Nosler Partition bullets. My old load was 86.4 grs. I I pick a starting point near the middle of the chart and load 3 rounds each and go up 1/2 gr of powder for each load. I started at 83 grains, next was 83.5 and so on until I got to 87.5. That gives me 10 different loads to group.

I started with number 1 at 83, #2 @ 83.5, #3@ 84, and #4@84.5. I quit when #4 gave me a 100 yard group less than 1/2". Lower left group of 3 will be it for my elk load. 40246

Did not take my Chronograph today. I am going to load up some more of this load and go back to the range next week. I need to get the zero at 200 and I'll take the chrono with me then. I'm guessing around 3200 fps.

I really appreciate the detailed information you are willing to provide! I am always looking for new loads for my 300wby, I developed my loads using RL22 and am planning on trying RL25. From my limited experience the 300 wby typically is most accurate near top end velocity 3200 to 3250 with 180 grain.

Looks like its a shooter! Happy for you. I know you were looking forward to getting it all dialed in. Hopefully you get to test it on an unlucky elk this upcoming year!

My original load in the other gun was 86.5 gr of RL25 with the 180 gr bullet and it was 3265 fps.

Just got back from the range. I installed the ballistic turret and shot at 200 yds. 1st shot right, adjusted and shot 2 more. Adjusted again and got 2 shots almost in the same hole. I also shot at 300 yds at 3 different clay birds (the ones that are used to shoot trap). They were painted hunter orange and broke all three, one shot each. I also chronographed the loads, all were from 3147 to 3i76 fps. Thats 1about 90 fps slower than the other load I shot before. All in all, this gun does shoot!40369
