I'm in need of a good quality GPS unit for elk hunting. Is there a brand I should look for, or stay away from?
Thanks in advance.

My uncle dropped off his 450t for me to use with my chip. My GPS doesn't accept a chip so he's saving me some money haha. I'll get one that accepts a chip next year. But I have a question and don't mean to hijack....why is the battery compartment so dang hard to open on this model? I feel like its going to break.I am with everyone else on this one! I have the Oregon 450 with the landowner chip and I really like it.
Thanks for the info. Quick question, what does the chip do? Provide the names of all the private landowners in the area?I use a cheaper Garmin Legend HCx because it does everything I need and it also takes the landowner chips. I got it for $153 to my door from Amazon.com a couple years ago to replace the older Legend I have that has a black and white screen and doesn't take chips.
Property boundaries, names, roads....I'm sure I've also missed some of the other benefits. But definetely get it especially if you will be near private land. No need to wreck a good hunt by getting somewhere you shouldn't be.Thanks for the info. Quick question, what does the chip do? Provide the names of all the private landowners in the area?

Like Topgun I've used a Garmin Legend HCx for years. It works great and with a new landowner chip it does everything I need. I recently bought a Garmin 62 which I'll begin using soon ... I went with this over the Oregon that many have mentioned because it was on sale (cheaper) and uses buttons which I find better in cold weather when wearing gloves than a touch screen.I use a cheaper Garmin Legend HCx because it does everything I need and it also takes the landowner chips. I know what you mean but I have had no problems with it. I just take my time changing the batteries so I don't break anything! My uncle dropped off his 450t for me to use with my chip. Good to know. My uncle said to just stick a knife in there and twist. I was like "oh no" hahaI know what you mean but I have had no problems with it. I just take my time changing the batteries so I don't break anything!

The huntinggpsmaps chip will show all the land ownership. I have not herd about the texting feature.Do they show blm land too? And I heard that some send text messages in an emergency situation. Any truth to that?
Look into the Delorme Inreach. It does messaging.Do they show blm land too? And I heard that some send text messages in an emergency situation. Any truth to that?
The Garmin Rino models that have the radio capability are the ones that you can text with.Do they show blm land too? And I heard that some send text messages in an emergency situation. Any truth to that?
