    I had a close encounter with a rattler while elk hunting this year, shot my bull with the dang thing only a couple feet away. I always carry an extra junk arrow with a good durable fixed blade broadhead, usually a muzzy, to shoot them when I see them. Over the years I have probably killed 30 plus rattlers while bow hunting. Almost every one of those I dang near stepped on it seems like and in my experience they definitely rattle to let you know they are there prior to striking at you. I have never once had one strike at me until I started to shoot at him.

    I certainly would want to apologize should someone take offense to one of my posts. Even though I've been in contact with them multiple times over the years while hunting pronghorn, in a duck blind, hiding under the truck, on my in laws patio and who knows how many times while out scouting....I have never killed one.
    To me it is far more offensive to needlessly kill something than any words you may or may not use to describe them.
    I don't like them one bit but to kill one just because it's there seems pretty vulgar to me.....but I do understand why.
