When do Colorado mule deer shed velvet?

    Guys,
I'm looking at doing my first Colorado mule deer hunt this fall or next. When do mule deer typically shed there velvet?

I've seen some shed as early as September 1st and some not until the end of September. However, most really begin to shed their velvet around the second week of September.

In Southern CO I've seen bucks in full velvet the last 3 years in a roll 3rd week of September.

I would say I notice most of the deer without velvet around the third week of September.

I saw bucks hard horned September 2nd this season. The buck I stuck was ready to rub out and that was on the 3rd.

I was in CO Sept 5-12 in 2013 and the only two deer we saw without velvet were the deer we ended up taking. Everything from forks to a 200"+ giant we found were all in Velvet still.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm good with a buck in velvet but my hunting buddy is hoping for hard horns......he might just have live with velvet.

Here's a buck I shot a few years back the 2nd week of Sept. Still in full velvet.
