I've hunted a ton in NE & SE MT, NW SD, and years ago, NE WY, mainly whitetails. My sources tell me that EHD in 2012, plus winter in 2010 & 2011, really decimated the deer in the prairie and river bottom habitat and Black Hills as well. I've heard that EHD did not hit too hard west of Harlowton, MT and elevations at about that level and above
(4,000'+). Anyone know of any pockets of remaining decent whitetail numbers in the eastern half of Montana, northeast Wyoming, or northwest South Dakota? Or is the EHD outbreak so sporadic you can't find information without talking to every biologist out there? From what I hear, it may be several years before deer numbers rebound in areas I've loved to hunt. Thanks for your thoughts, guys!
