The downside is it will wear out a knife much faster.

The one I like best was the cheapest and does a great job to put an edge back on a knife when you are butchering or dressing out an animal. Can't remember the name, but it is a small yellow plastic thing that has a course and fine notch on opposite sides. Bought it at WalMart for a couple of bucks. I keep one in my pocket when I am in the field, works great to dress up a knife that gets a little dull while you are using it. It only takes seconds to put the edge back in fine shape. Quick & easy
I had one of them yellow ones as well, it is a Smiths. I've got a Rapala just like it that is gray. I carry it in my backpack. My wife stole the Smiths from me. She used it on her kitchen knives one day. Liked it so much, she kept it & told me to go buy another one for my pack! I use the warthog at home & the rapala to dress-up in the field.

I was never any good with my Lansky.
Use a havalon for most everything now but I also have a 2 inch belt grinder and a buffing wheel that I can make any knife scary sharp on. Actually have a worksharp and sure it would work but have never plugged it in.

I use a Lansky as well and I love it! It's easy to use but takes a little bit of time to get it just how I like it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though.
