    2018 non-resident preference point fees

There was some conflicting information on the recent thread about preference point fee increases in Wyoming. Since I'm impatient and want to know, I asked G&F what they were going to be. My answer came today. Per the email, the fees for 2018 will be:

    Antelope $31
    Deer $41
    Elk $52
    Moose $150
    Sheep $150

I also looked back to find where the legislature authorized the deer/elk/antelope points to go up to $75, so you can guess where things are headed.

Thought some of you might be interested....

I don't think a $4 increase all up, for your antelope, deer and elk points is pricing anyone out of hunting. Drink one less beer at the bar.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

I agree, in the grand scheme of things the tag and preference point prices a not that bad when you consider all the other things that you spend money on. You just need to plan things out if you want to hunt out of state.

I don't know about you guys but that up to $75.00 authorization is a worry for me. In my studies it is trending that most all antelope units will take points to draw in the near future. The units with average to good public land will take 5+ to draw. If you buy deer and antelope points for 5 to 6 years you could have close to $1,000.00 in points buy the time you draw. That is not for the few coveted units. Then you also have to think the tag prices are trending up. To do a DIY antelope and deer hunt you could be in $2,000.00 or more before any other cost. Anyone have any golf clubs for sale?

The reality is Wyoming will have no trouble selling points or tags.

Thanks for the update. It'll be super interesting to see how many stay in the game for sheep and moose. Not sure if I should or not. Feel like I should stay in one more year just to see how many drop out.

Sheep hunters tend to be fanatical and/or have very deep pockets. I don't see any of them dropping out. Moose: who knows?
