COAL 3.44
IMR 4350 56.5 grains
CCI Mag rifle primer
Nosler brass
Nosler 180 gr Accubond
2973 FPS
Just made a bunch of these. Checked the 100 yard group at 1 inch. 1st shot zero bullseye at 250, then checked the 400 yard drop at -16 inches.
I am still loading a 30-06 load my Dad and I developed 50 years ago.
53 gr 4895 - the key here is it is military surplus powder!
150 gr Sierra Spitzer (Now Called Game King)
Shoot it in my 03 sporterized Springfield.
About 10 years ago I exhausted my supply of military 4895 that my Dad got in about 1950. The new 4895 is a hotter powder and I had to drop the load to about 50 grains, but it just wasn't as accurate. When my Dad passed away in 2012, I got all his guns and reloading stuff. Guess what.....I found about 5# of the old powder! Loaded up some of the old load and I am back in business. This load is right at 3100 fps and shoots wonderful, less that moa out to 400 yds. Only thing different is I am using boattail bullets.
Oldies but goodies is right. I've had this rifle since 1950 when my Grandfather got it (along with several more) from the NRA and gave it to me.
