    Spot or Inreach

Saw a Spot satellite communicator at the local Gander Mountain today for $150 as a part of their store clearance. Is the spot as good as the Garmin Inreach?

    No comparison.

Spot, 1 way communication, you don't know if your message made it through and 3 preset messages.

In-reach, two way communication, weather forecast, Ariel and topo maps through the earth-mate app, SOS, tracking.

IMO if Spot doesn't come out with anything better they wont survive. I used to have a SPOT, was great until the Inreach came out now that is the go two device.

The coverage in North America is better on a Delorme as well.

I have wanted an InReach for a while now but have never pulled the trigger, now that Garmin has bought Delorme they have upgraded the units but they are significantly more expensive. You can still find the old ones on Amazon which I am tempted to grab before you can't find one anymore. I assume the older Delorme units have no issues jumping on to the Garmin system.

I am considering buying one of the Garmin/InReach units. I'm gonna be 47 soon and not that I'm in poor health but I'm thinking having one of these would be a useful tool to have either as a solo hunt or even 2+ group. You never know what could possibly happen.

Been looking at the new inreach models all summer. I haven't seen any less than full retail of $449.
Has anyone bought a new one recently for less?
