This is my best archery bull to date. Taken in the Big Horn mountains. I snuck up on him while he was thrashing in his wallow. Managed to get by a good 5x5 and 20+ cows. Once I was able to cool my nerves, I made a great 30 yard shot. bull ran right at me, spun left 5 yards away and I watched him fall. Best hunt of my life. Bull has super good mass and great tops with 22 and 23 inch forths. Scores 352. Lets see some of yours. :)

I guess it would only be right to add that this was a DYI public land hunt.

02-21-2011, 09:36 PM
Best bull yet. Called him into 5 yards back in 2007 and shot him. He ran about 50 yards before piling up. Just a nice North Idaho bull!

This is my bull that was featured last fall in EHJ. Best hunt I have ever been on.

I killed my first bull last year. I'll never forget the 4 hour and 45 minute stalk, getting above the elk and looking under a rock through a hole and being able to see the herd move up to my shooting lane, the grueling hike out that night with a hind quarter strapped to my back and the enjoyable pain, not to mention being able to share the hunt with my father and a great friend and his son, who also shot a cow after I got the herd bull on the ground.

He broke off more than half of his left antler, but who cares!!!

The happy crew the next day after both elk were packed out. The elk were up high over our right shoulders.

One of my favorite pictures, success!!!

This is my first bull. Nevada 2006 scored 350 took him at 425 yards with a heart shot. I brought some friends along to help.
It was -20 opening day in Ely Nv. Saw a ton of elk that year. We hiked up 4200 ft to 11500 took 9 hrs to get there. Bad thing was we were after a 6x8 380 but we lost him in the timber when he bedded. This one came out and fed on a hill side with 15 other bulls so I took him home.

My buddy, Jake with his 2010 6x5 and that's me with the little 5x5 from last year. Nothing big, but not too bad for Colorado, public land, archery OTC.

That's my cousins big rifle 7x8 from the Bighorns of Wyoming. I gotta hunt with him some year! :D

03-01-2011, 09:33 PM
Thats a stud bighorn bull. Pretty high up for rifle season. Good work

03-02-2011, 04:40 PM
For sure, I love that 7x8.. he is awesome!

03-02-2011, 04:53 PM
This was my family's 2007 elk season. My dad is on the left with a Laramie Mtns. bull, I'm in the middle also with one from the Laramie Range, and my older brother is on the right with a bull from the Bighorns.

Woops, I started another thread to show mine before seeing this. Anyway, here he is. My first bull, New Mexico 2009. DIY hunt at the end of September. He was the heard bull and couldn't be called away so I snuck in to get him in the junipers. 34 yards with a Rocky Mountain Ironhead.

03-03-2011, 07:18 PM
Great bulls..Sorry I didn't have any field photos of mine. Still had the old 35mm in my pack in 05..lol..Bigsurarcher,I guess thats the norm.;
good herd bulls not leaving their cows. I've only ever had one incident when the herd bull came to me. That was after i made several cow calls. ran towards the bunch for about 60 yrds. The herd bull was 70 yards from me and I ripped off the meanest bugle i could. He was on top of me so fast I didn't have time to hook my release to my string and draw. He busted me. Guess you could say I got into his space. That was a heart jacker for sure.

03-14-2011, 10:02 AM
After several years of tag soup this is my first bull taken in mid September 2010. Bulls official score is 327. Taken on an OTC wilderness hunt in CO with Dad, brother, and good friend. Bull was 11 trail miles from trailhead and a special thanks goes out to our newly aquired pack mules. Very amazing experience!

03-14-2011, 10:47 AM
Sounds like an AWESOME hunt Jeff. Huge congrats.

03-21-2011, 09:00 AM
my first bull from last fall. Got him close to home here in MT at 65 yards with my 35 Whelen.

03-22-2011, 08:42 AM
Here is my 2010 public land bull, taken above Dubois around the Sheridan Creek area. He is a 7x7 and officially scores 362 4/8 non-typical... The most exciting part of the hunt was my daughter being by my side to experience the hunt...

03-22-2011, 11:12 AM
Your bull has great fronts Chadderbox..Good work.

Woodtick-- I was deer hunting near Panguitch this last year and saw a bull with big whale tails like that. Awsome animal.

04-12-2011, 10:12 AM
843Idaho Public Land DIY. I had chased this bull and his harem of cows for 2 weekends in a row back in 2005. On the final day of the archery season he made a mistake and me being in the right place at the right time made him pay. He scored 361 5/8" and was pictured in Ryan Hatfields book "IDAHO'S GREATEST ELK". He is def. my bull of a lifetime in this area. It is a very heavily pressured area of Idaho.

Here is a picture of my first and only bull. Taken in 2004 the day before Thanksgiving on my Hunt of a Lifetime hunt in unit 7E late rifle AZ with Timberland Outfitters. He is not a monster like a lot of the others but I am very happy with him. Hopefully one of these seasons I will break my dry spell.

Here is a picture of the last bull my dad took. I got him started bowhunting 2 years ago and he heads out on his first hunt and kills this bull!!! Again not a monster but very respectable for a Colorado archery bull.

05-29-2011, 09:38 AM
Those are some nice animals. Looking forward to chasing them again this fall.
