View Full Version : cooking small game in the backcountry

Just curious if anyone was taking small game while in the backcountry on hunting or scouting trips, and how you prepare it. I usually pack a Snow Peak, or similar cup of around 25oz that I can boil meat in and a few bullion cubes, but don't seem to use it for more than boiling water. I ordered a kit from Ruta Locura to convert a Crickett 22 into a 15oz pack rifle to carry so I was thinking I should check out some more recipes for rabbits and squirrels. I also got a little titanium grill from them that I could use for campfire cooking.

Thanks for any help you can give.

i never do unless i have a base camp set up where i can build an actual fire. then those grouse and pine hins turn into some great meals fried up with some taters, onions and some olive oil. rabbits make one great meal to. unless the weather is nice nid cool i try to not eat the rabitts. thanks for posting this, should be interesting to see some of the responses.
