I have business in Missoula today. Thought I would swing by the elk foundation and renew my membership. Looking at all those huge bulls gets the motor running. The elk foundation helps those of us suffering from Cabin Fever!! One of my kids is sick, so I'll be dragging him along. Lucky dawg gets to skip school and go to the elk foundation, he'll probably learn more there anyway;)

I don't make it up to Missoula very often but I sure wouldn't mind stopping by the RMEF. I have never been. So, did your kid figure out what unit he wants to hunt in?

Nope, wifster caught wind of my plan. I got the "if he too sick to go to school, he's too sick to go to Missoula." LOl. He isn't really sick, I just didn't want him getting other kids at school sick. Anyway, I did stop by the foundation and as usual enjoyed my visit. I go up there 3-4 times a year. I should have brought my camera for those who have never been up there. I actually liked the old HQ's better. They used to put out a lot of art work that we really enjoyed.

I never thought of stopping by do they have much to look at? I will be going through in a few months and may have to check it out. As for the organization its self I'm on the local committee and last night we had a meeting with the guy working to plan a lot of habitat restoration in southern Idaho. Makes me glad my money is going somewhere that I can see the results.

Is it a 30 minute or a half day kind of set up?

It can be a half day depending on your level of interest. We always watch the movies in the movie room etc. Read the log books, go through the displays and info booths etc.

If you stop at the Elk Foundation you NEED to also go to the Boone & Crockett club. They have some impressive mounts in there and will even let you wander in the workers areas to look at some on the walls. Karl Tyler Chevy has some nice mounts as well, and Wholesale Sports on Reserve Street too!

The Boone & Crockett club also does some good work on the ground for all of us too! A lot of folks don't realize that most of our hunting and conservation heritage started with Teddy Roosevelt and this group he formed. I'm a member and proud to say so. It's not just about large animals.

Sorry guys but I forgot about Bob Ward & Sons. They also have some really impressive mounts of deer, elk, antelope, sheep, bears, etc!

RMEF and B+C are both great organizations. I support them both and encourage others to check them out. Both stops are well worth the time in Missoula.
